Adult VT #6 – “Concussion/Rehabilitation for Head Trauma”

By Erica O’Brien, O.D., F.C.O.V.D.
Concussion and head trauma can be incredibly debilitating conditions that profoundly affect daily functioning and quality of life. Visual functions that used to be seamless and automatic are commonly not functioning in the same manner prior to the incident which results in increased amounts of effort, compensate and frustration. Visual information processing including spatial awareness, visual memory, and visual motor integration are common areas that are disrupted after a concussion, and can often be overlooked or not addressed. Visual mechanics are oftentimes disrupted as well as causing difficulty with tracking/reading, headaches/eye strain, and light sensitivity. At OCVT, our team is well experienced in treating visual symptoms associated with head trauma for individuals of all ages.
